Training & Development
Riverside Community College District is committed to providing practical and professional training opportunities and resources to staff in alignment with the District's strategic goals. We offer training to develop employees' skills and competencies which contribute to efficient work performance. We also provide programs that encourage academic advancement in support of career development. We provide learning in a variety of methods and styles to equip staff with skills and confidence to perform their duties at the highest level. Our goal is to inspire employees to achieve excellence!
Professional Growth Program
The District encourages confidential and classified professionals to continue to develop and improve job skills, as well as academic experiences, through academic and professional endeavors. It is our goal to assist employees in attainingnew skills and proficiencies beyond those presented at the time of initial employment.
The Professional Growth Program is a voluntary program for confidential and classified professionals. To be eligible for participation in the program, the employee must be a permanent confidential or classified professional of the District. Coursework completed prior to employment with RCCD may not be considered for Professional Growth purposes.
Professional growth related to the employee’s specific job or overall college function may be achieved in the following manner:
1. Course work and instructional programs.
2. Independent study or publication.
3. Professional organization participation.
If a confidential or classified professional is planning on participating in a professional growth activity, they may submit the required written request (at least 10 working days prior to the beginning of class(es) and within 30 calendar days after beginning independent study, being published, or being elected to a professional organization) for preliminary review, the committee will notify the employee if the request has been approved or denied.
Upon completion of twelve (12) semester units of approved course work, the employee may submit a request for a professional achievement step. The step increase will be submitted to the Board of Trustees for approval and will be effective the month following board approval.
There are a maximum of seven (7) Professional Growth achievement steps, two (2) of which must be in the job skills category. These are not related to salary step increases. A Professional Growth achievement step, should it be approved, is an additional $50 paid monthly. A Job Skills achievement step, should it be approved, is an additional $75 paid monthly. The coursework in the job skills category does not have to be taken consecutively; it is evaluated on a cumulative basis. Upon completion of all steps there’s a potential earning of $400 monthly (to be pro-rated if applicable). You may only take your Professional Growth Stipend with you if promoted within the CSEA bargaining unit.
Staff Development Program
Staff development is a planned learning program, activity or experience that has as its major purpose the maintenance or increase in employees' job related knowledge and skill that contribute to the employees' ability to effectively carry out his/her job duties and responsibilities. Staff development also provides positive reinforcement and enhancement to employees' morale, self-esteem, self-improvement and upward mobility.
All regular (FT and Permanent PT) classified and confidential employees are eligible
to request Staff Development Funds.
Institutional Memberships
The Association of Title IX Administrators is the nation’s leading membership organization for Title IX professionals. They promote, develop, and safeguard the practice of Title IX administration and those who work in the field. ATIXA is an independent, not-for profit corporation incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It has more than 11,000 active members from colleges, universities, schools, and organizations. The Advisory Board consists of over 30 leaders in the field. ATIXA’s offices are based in King of Prussia, PA.
CUPA-HR is higher ed HR. They serve higher education by providing the knowledge, resources, advocacy and connections to achieve organizational and workforce excellence.
As the association for HR professionals in higher education, CUPA-HR provides leadership on higher education workplace issues in the U.S. and abroad. They monitor trends, explore emerging workforce issues, conduct research and promote strategic discussions among colleges and universities.
They provide opportunities for their members to connect with one another and to develop professionally by hosting conferences and webinars, publishing tools and resources, and offering online communities for collaboration.
They also partner with other higher education and HR management associations to advocate on legislative and compliance issues that impact the higher ed workplace.
CUPA-HR Membership is made up of more than 33,000 HR professionals and other higher ed leaders at more than 1,800 member organizations.
