Jan Steiner Inspires RCC Students Through Packaging Printing Course Visit

Riverside City College (RCC) welcomed benefactor and RCCD Foundation Board Member Jan Steiner to campus for a special visit to the new Applied Digital Media (ADM) Packaging and Printing course. Steiner, the former owner and CEO of Thoro Packaging, met with more than 50 ADM students, sharing her insight into career opportunities in the packaging and printing industry and offering practical advice on job skills preparation.

The event was sponsored by Meriel Anderson-McDade and the RCC Career Center, bringing together students eager to learn from Steiner’s decades of experience in transforming Thoro Packaging from a small family business into an industry leader with nearly $40 million in revenue.

Steiner, a recipient of the Spirit of the Entrepreneur Award, a member of the Ben Franklin Honor Society, and a current RCCD foundation board member has long championed student success at RCCD. Her generosity has significantly shaped the printing program, including her $1 million donation to fund the purchase of a Heidelberg printer that continues to provide cutting-edge training for students.

“Jan’s visit gave our students an incredible opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world industry experience. Her story and generosity continue to inspire students to see what is possible in the world of packaging and printing” explained Kwokwai Siu, Associate Professor of Applied Digital Media.
