Career and Technical Education Handbook Released

Riverside Community College District released its 2020-21 Career and Technical Education Handbook. Moreno Valley, Norco and Riverside City colleges offer over 100 CTE certificate and degree patterns in a variety of industry sectors. CTE courses offer students opportunities to learn skills in high-demand fields. In addition to learning technical education, learners will also be exposed to core academic subjects.

These hands-on CTE courses afford students the opportunity to develop problem-solving capabilities, project-completion skills, research competence, communication, time management proficiency, and critical thinking abilities. Coursework is comprehensive and rigorous, allowing for career exploration and skill development. Courses provide individuals with the chance to develop employability skills that can lead to high-wage opportunities.

Students will also have an opportunity to test run careers through the Apprenticeship Program. Apprenticeships are an effective approach for assisting students with knowledge and skills needed in their chosen area of study. There are a number of positives when choosing whether to participate in an apprenticeship, such as a career exploration, strengthening your professionalism, resume building, and improving classroom performance. Apprenticeships also allow students to earn while they learn while experiencing the rigors of their chosen field of study. Use the state's database of approved apprenticeship programs to find contact information for programs available in your area.

The colleges also offer noncredit courses and certificates through an Extended Learning platform. Extended Learning offers noncredit, free courses which lead to certificates. More information about Extended Learning can be found, here.
