Experience

Dr. Mills began her career with the District as a part-time faculty member in spring of 1991. Hired as a full-time faculty member in fall of 1991, she served as a mathematics faculty member for 23 years and held various faculty leadership positions (Mathematics Department chair, Assessment coordinator and Faculty Accreditation co-chair).

For more than six years, Dr. Mills served as a District administrator including as the District's vice chancellor of Educational Services and Strategic Planning, Riverside City College's vice president of Academic Affairs, vice president of Planning and Development, and Associate vice president of Institutional Effectiveness.

During her time as vice chancellor of Educational Services and Strategic Planning, Dr. Mills facilitated the development, initial implementation, and assessment of the District's 2019-24 Strategic Plan. She collaborated on accreditation, academic and student affairs, information technology, institutional effectiveness, guided pathways, multi-term registration, AB705 implementation, and online student planning and registration implementation.

Even after retiring, she continued to assist the District, serving as an interim vice president at Riverside City College during the spring of 2021 and most recently as a special assistant to the Chancellor for strategic planning matters.

Dr. Mills believes she still has a great deal to contribute to the work of the District, therefore, her return to her former position. Prior to her teaching career, she worked as a software engineer for TRW in San Bernardino and for Digital Equipment Corporation in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Mills earned a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, a master's degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Riverside. She also holds a doctoral degree in Education from the Claremont Graduate University where she was the recipient of the Winifred Hausam - Helen Fisk Award. Her research focused on gender and ethnicity issues in mathematics and science and on mathematics pedagogy and curriculum. Her coursework and research enhanced her awareness of the diverse perspectives of students and increased her level of reflection on teaching and learning.

Outside of the office, Dr. Mills enjoys spending time with her family and hiking, biking, and kayaking in Lake Tahoe.
