Summer Math Institute

Riverside Community College District is dedicated to providing an online Summer Math Institute for graduating high school seniors and current RCCD students. The Summer Math Institute is a special program of the RCCD Board of Trustees that seeks to improve the equitable access and success rates of those students who attempt college-level math during their first year, especially for African-American/Black and Latinx students. The Summer Math Institute is designed to address equity gaps of both representation and success. This program is in response to both the historical and more urgent current data which shows African-American/Black and Latinx students disproportionately have not continued on to higher education upon graduating from high school as a result of the global pandemic. Further, our data indicates, African-American/Black and Latinx students were the most likely to stop-out of our institutions as a result of COVID citing economic, familial and health-related reasons. RCCD’s Summer Math Institute, while open to all students, is designed to incentivize and encourage those students who may have to overcome additional barriers to fulfilling their higher education goals.
