Fast Facts
Q: What services does the Grants Office provide?
A:
Funding research and analysis for district and college initiatives; proposal development services for grants $100,000 and over; technical assistance related to grant implementation; contract development; and training and consultation services in support of successful grant management.
Q: What is the process of obtaining approval to apply for a grant?
A:
Once a potential source of funding is identified, the Grants Office will provide the college administration and faculty, or District administration with information about the grant and an opinion regarding the feasibility of winning an award. Each college or District department will conduct an analysis of the grant to determine whether the grant aligns with the strategic plan of the college or District, to identify the impact of the grant on all operational areas, and to ascertain whether the college or District department possesses the expertise and resources to successfully implement the grant. If this analysis results in a decision to develop an application, the Chancellor/College President, or designee, will notify the Grants Office administration by sending a written approval.
Q: Will the Grants Office prepare the grant application for me?
A:
The Grants Office provides varying degrees of proposal development assistance based on the complexity of the proposal, the assistance requested and the availability of staff to work on the proposal. Requests for $100,000 or less are prepared by the applicant college.
Q: When should I contact the Grants Office?
A:
As soon as you become aware of a funding opportunity and have preliminary approval from your district department/college admnistration to pursue funding.
Q: How much funding could I be awarded?
A:
Some programs offer as little as a one-time-only $5,000 award while others offer upwards of $775,000 per year for as many as five years. The average award we see is approximately $300,000 per year for three years.
Q: What are my chances of winning?
A:
The environment is very competitive at this time, but the Grants Office can provide expert advice regarding the feasibility of winning an award and how a proposal should be written to be competitive.
Q: I've just won a grant. What do I do now?
A:
Make two phone calls right away. Contact the Budget Analyst assigned to your college/district department so that a budget can be created in Galaxy. Contact the Grant Department at 222-8932 for grant management training and resources.
