Dr. Shawna Dr. BúShell, Dean of Educational Services and Online Learning
Dr. Shawna Dr. BúShell returns to her native California after 20 years of academic research and practice in Instructional Design and Curriculum leadership. Dr. BúShell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from The College of Notre Dame, a Master of Education from Stanford University in Learning Design and Technology, and an Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University in Instructional Technology & Media.
Her resume bridges business, public education, and higher education; as she began her career working for Pacific Bell in digital technologies, she transitioned to teaching at a Magnet Science and Technology elementary school in an urban school district in Northern California. As she furthered her skill set with graduate degrees in New York, she spent 10 years bridging educational technology with university resources to 53 New York City schools. After graduating began her faculty journey at Rowan University as a Professor of Practice bringing preservice teacher programs to rural New Jersey with an impact that she still is asked to present. She trudged forward in a leadership capacity building the inaugural Instructional Design Program for Manhattan College, which included building an expansive early college component for neighboring high schools. She continued her leadership in developing community college curriculum and African American Male initiatives as Dean of Instruction at Malcolm X College in Chicago, Illinois. She leaves behind three new centers for Teaching and Learning, an expanded hybrid curriculum, and vision and foresight on how to engage and run successful grant outcomes.
Dr. BúShell lives the daily motto: "Each One Teach One.”
She returns to California with a wealth of nationwide distance learning experience. She is excited to be a part of the RCCD team.
