The World Languages Department at Riverside Community College is a stand-out among California Community Colleges, offering for-credit courses in more languages than most other institutions in the state.
We offer beginning to intermediate courses in 13 languages:
American Sign Language
Classes are available in morning, afternoon, evening and weekend sessions. Our course formats include face-to-face, web-enhanced, hybrid or online options. We have a fully equipped lab with World Languages instructors on duty to help you. As an alternative to taking course work, you can brush up on your language skills in our lab by using any of a variety of software programs. Courses can be taken as transfer requirements to 4-year institutions or towards an AA/AS degree. Our faculty are highly trained in their fields of specialization and interested in making your language acquisition experience fun, meaningful, and successful. Our classes emphasize the development of communicative competence, including listening/watching, reading, speaking/signing, and/or writing. We have access to digitized language materials available on our servers and on the Internet.
The study of diverse culture and languages promotes:
- Intercultural communication and sensitivity
- A spirit of openness for and understanding of other cultures and lifestyles
- Increased analytic and interpretive capacities
- Improved entrance exam scores
- Clear career advantages and marketability in today's increasingly diverse local, national and global contexts
