The Inland Empire is a metropolitan area and region in Southern California which includes Riverside and San Bernardino counties and covers more than 27,000 square miles with a population of approximately 4 million people. The area was a major center of agriculture, including citrus, dairy, and wine-making. However, agriculture and dairy production has declined and since the 1970s the I.E. has become more residential, industrial and a prime location for commercial development.
