<p style="text-align:justify">After a three-year hiatus, Riverside City College's MUSE Literary Journal is back in print. To celebrate its revival, MUSE staff will host a sunset reception at Grier Pavilion (the 7th floor of City Hall), Thursday, May 30, at 7 p.m.  Admission is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.  </p>
<div style="text-align:justify">MUSE began as a creative writing club at RCC in 1986. Within several years, it became a literary publication and English course where students could apprentice in all elements of the publishing process—from writer correspondence to editorial selection, promotion, budgeting, fundraising, networking, and distribution. The class offers hands-on training for many transferrable skills.</div>
<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>
<div style="text-align:justify">Under pressure from state budget cuts, MUSE ceased publication in 2010.  This year, with the support of faculty and administration, the class was added back to RCC's spring schedule. </div>
<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>
<div style="text-align:justify">&quot;We are incredibly proud of this edition of MUSE,&quot; said Susan Parker, managing editor.  &quot; It represents the highest level of local talent, both authors and artists alike. We wanted to do our best to set a high bar for continued annual production, and to showcase what our community college students can do.”</div>
<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>
<div style="text-align:justify">In October, MUSE will kick off a contest awarding $400 to the best short story submission. RCC student writers can enter for free.</div>
<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>
<div style="text-align:justify">The cover of the Spring 2013 issue features a painting by RCC student Stacey Patino. Inside, work by RCC student writers and artists—Nichelle Scott-Williams, Candace Mayo, AJ Goebel, Esau Bautista, and others—is published alongside established writers and artists from across the country including journalist Tom Zoellner, poets Kristine Anderson and BZ Niditch, and novelist Allison Whittenberg. </div>
<div style="text-align:justify"> </div>
<div style="text-align:justify">The launch reception will recognize special donors and supporters, and feature a reading of select contributions. Scott Russell, one of the original founders of MUSE, will share work published in the first issue.  Special guests include RCC President Cynthia Azari and RCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Wolde-Ab Issac, Covina artist Daniel Cuesta, and Long Beach poet Donna Hilbert. There will be music, special gifts, and a variety of prizes, along with a limited number of book giveaways. Books also will be available for purchase, and featured writers/artists will be on hand to sign copies.</div>
