The Riverside Community College District (RCCD) College Safety and Police Department is a POST certified agency that complies with all California state standards for recruitment and training, per California Penal Code Section 13522.
Authority & Services
Pursuant to Section 830.32a of the Penal Code and 72330 of the Education Code, our law enforcement authority on or about the campus is identical to that of municipal and county law enforcement officers. As such, the RCCD College Safety and Police Department is responsible for reporting and investigating all criminal matters on properties owned and operated by the District.
- Our mission is to provide a safe and secure learning environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Our law enforcement methods fit within and contribute to the educational philosophy of the District.
- Our goal is to strive to be one of the most professional college law enforcement agencies in the State of California, and continue to assist our District in its mission to provide higher education to our community.
The RCCD College Safety and Police Department provides law enforcement services 24/7 to our three colleges (Riverside, Norco, Moreno Valley), as well as several offsite education centers. Department divisions include patrol services at each main campus, a centralized detective division, a bicycle patrol, a gang unit, and a Sexual Assault Response Team. We also participate in the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program, and many other joint policing programs throughout the State and County.
Working with Other Law Enforcement Agencies
We have Memorandums of Understanding with the Riverside Police Department and Riverside County Sheriff's Department, which provide the department with assistance for incidents requiring specialized resources and expertise. These MOU's also provide the guidelines for College Safety and Police to assist municipal law enforcement in providing police services to our surrounding communities.
